Preparing for Extended Voyages

When the journey spans multiple days, the best stops do more than give you a place to tie up for the night. They give you a chance to restock, reset and prepare for the next stretch of water.

South Shore Harbor Marina is built for that kind of stop.

Here, visiting boaters can replenish the galley, replace everyday supplies, take care of routine onboard needs and handle those inevitable additions to the list before getting underway again.

And if the schedule allows, there is a pretty good city waiting beyond the marina.

A Natural Stop Before the Gulf

Located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain, South Shore Harbor Marina serves as New Orleans’ Gateway to the Gulf, offering a convenient stop for cruisers moving through the area and continuing toward Gulf Coast waterways.

After several days underway, there are tanks to tend to, provisions to replace, supplies to pick up and plenty of small things that are easier to handle while securely docked. Our transient slips give visiting boaters a place to dock while they tend to the boat and crew, with amenities including a pump-out station, restrooms and showers, and secured parking.

For cruisers building flexibility into a longer itinerary, South Shore can also serve as a useful staging point. Spend a night, stay a little longer if the schedule allows, take care of the boat and head into the next leg without feeling rushed to squeeze everything into a few hours.

That can be especially useful when weather, timing or the route itself calls for a little adjustment along the way.

Everything Within Reach

Provisioning is a lot easier when the things you need are close by.

South Shore Harbor Marina is approximately 15 minutes from the French Quarter and New Orleans Central Business District, with nearby access to fuel, grocery stores, pharmacies, marine supplies, restaurants and other necessities throughout the surrounding area.

That proximity makes it easier to take care of several needs during the same stay. Boaters can provision, top off water, pick up parts or supplies, handle routine maintenance and give the crew a break without building several additional stops into the itinerary.

It also means those last-minute items are easier to address. A missing part, an overlooked grocery item or something that simply ran out sooner than expected does not have to become a major detour.

And once the errands are handled, South Shore’s proximity to New Orleans gives visiting boaters the chance to make more of their time ashore. Enjoy a good meal, explore a neighborhood, catch some live music or spend a few hours seeing the city before returning to the marina.

Make One Stop Do More

For a longer voyage, there is real value in a marina where several needs can be handled at once.

South Shore gives cruisers the option to make the stop fit the trip. If the plan is to head out first thing in the morning, you can take care of what needs attention and be ready to go. If the itinerary allows for another night, there is plenty nearby to make the extra time worthwhile.

That combination of practical access and proximity to New Orleans gives the marina an advantage over a simple overnight stop. You can handle the necessities, spend some time ashore and return to the boat ready for what comes next.

South Shore Harbor Marina offers the convenience and flexibility that make a stop worth building into the route.

When you are charting the next leg of your voyage, make South Shore Harbor Marina part of the plan.
